Fomentek Temperature Therapy
Hot or Cold?
Remember in any traumatic situation the body protects the HEAD all costs and it often costs us an arm or a leg. And even then sometimes these auxiliary helpers can’t keep the head safe and we end up with head trauma. If the face is RED, COOL the head. If the face is WHITE, WARM the head. Always warm a person going into shock. Lie down (incline head if RED) and relax a completely as possible and breathe strongly into the pain. Try to match the pain with your breath. This will get an immediate response from the nervous system to relax.
Remember: Be Gentle, warm and cool go a long way
People always want to know “how long” to keep a hot/cold bag on. Well here’s the dope. If you are sleeping with it, push it away before it begins to cool you. However, my large Fomentek will stay warm until morning.
For injuries it is always helpful to keep down the swelling. Adding very cold, then removing it for a little while for the circulation to increase can be very helpful. At first you keep the cold on a lot, it will feel better. But then you will want the normal temp after while. And following that, you may want to add warmth to facilitate circulation. This succession may take place over a period of days or hours.
And the last tip is for JOINT PAIN. If you have aching in joints try moving back and forth between cold (ice floating in the water) and hot. My rule of thumb is 1 minute of cold, warm to body temp (maybe 5 to 10 minutes).
